It's a one-up world

Who wore it better? I see that question and it sort of upsets me. With this outfit which I think is just plain ugly it so doesn't matter to me who wore it better. But in this world success is more and more measured by things like that. Kim Kardashian swears she will outdo the Royal wedding. What a terrible waste of money and time. What's wrong with getting married because you love the other person and not to make yourself look (better?). I am amazed at how short a time the money spent on one thing or another is really remembered by most people and yet they consistently try to outdo each other.

I was looking at some pics of Lady Gaga. Some of the comments put her down as a Madonnawannabe.
So tell me. Was Elton a Madonnawannabe. Was David Bowie? So we have a lot of performers who make dressing weird a part of their act. Gee, anybody remember Kiss? I'm not a great fan of either Madonna or Gaga. But I really abhor the need to make one's fave better by putting down others. Why can't we just say Gaga is Gaga and Madonna is Madonna? I like or don't like one or the other and leave it at that.

When Michelle Obama stepped out in sleeveless dresses, many were all over it. The First Lady shouldn't wear sleeveless dresses. I am asking not only why not but why, exactly, does it matter? Is a person from us regular folks more able to be a fashion arbiter than the First Lady? Just sayin.

We make judgements about people all of the time without knowing anything about why they are doing something. Scarjo and Sean Penn are an example. Who's to say who is too old or young for someone else? And I hark back to Brad Angie Jennifer. I am a firm believer that one woman cannot take a man away from another woman if he adores her. So why are people still taking sides on an issue that was over years ago? Witness the Team Angie and Team Jenn.

I am afraid that part of the reasoning behind these behaviors is that we don't value ourselves enough. We try to attach our feelings of self-worth to others. After many many many years of doing that I see that it just doesn't work. Sooner or later, we have to look in the mirror and see what's really there without the filters of other people's accomplishments or popularity.

For myself, I think the Royal wedding was beautiful but I wonder if the cost of that and the honeymoon was just too much in this economic times. I think Gaga is just that, Gaga. If Scarjo and Sean Penn are happy, why try to bring them down with judgements? Time usually takes care of those things anyway. If people want to compare outfits, let that happen on a level playing field and not be a popularity thing. If you are going to get married, do it for love and now for the show. I think I'm saying "Get real".

  1. I totally agree.
First the outfit, it's awful- I mean I know nothing about sewing but it seems like there is something terribly wrong with the cut of that jacket.
Then comments as Kim's are totally out place- indeed, whatever happened to getting married for YOU and not for others?

  2. I feel like 'who wore it better' is just a cruel way of saying 'who is more attractive' because lets face it, they didn't really style the suit very differently!
I guess I would say that I prefer the red shoes to the black, but it's a totally unattractive suit.

We just love to judge people - any way we can.
